The boat in these photographs was built from scrap material scavenged around San Francisco. After submitting a proposal and drawing to Hayes Valley Art Works and receiving an approval, I engaged program participants in helping build this object. Details such as the metal propeller and badminton oars were made from objects found by my helpers.
It serves as a seat and writing desk and planter box. It is not yet complete. A vine is meant to cover the structure including the sail. Unfortunately, rats have been eating at the roots of the vines I have put in place. Currently creeping fig is in place and I am hoping that it will survive long enough to begin climbing.
